Avalon Harbor Activity Report - March 2017

2017-04-25
City of Avalon

It’s like déjà vu all over again!  This year’s March weather Stats are exactly the same as March 2016; an average high of only 64° and 11 days of weather warnings.  The good news is, this year all the scheduled cruise ships were able to visit, including the Star Princess which came in on the 10th.

Speaking of the cruise ships, the Carnival boats are visiting on Tuesdays and Wednesdays during March, April and most of May, then back to Mondays and Wednesdays on May 29th.

The boaters had a wonderful view of vivid green hills, thanks this winter’s rains. Anyone venturing off their boat to go hiking was treated to numerous wild flowers; some of which haven’t been seen for a few years: lupines, shooting stars, blue dichs, brush daisies, coreopsis, mariposa lilies, Indian paint brush, wild sweet peas…and many more!

The Catalina Flyer started back on its daily schedule the first week in March.

The Catalina Island Marathon, which included a 5k and 10k run, was held on March 11th with 762 total finishers, including 352 Marathon finishers!
