7:15 a.m. to Noon - Volunteer at the James H. Ackerman Native Plant Nursery in Middle Ranch and enjoy a beautiful morning drive through the interior of Catalina. While at the nursery you will perform a variety of essential horticultural tasks, all while learning about Catalina’s unique environment and the native plant species found here. 48 hours advance notice required - leave Avalon at 7:15am and return by noon. The Catalina Island Museum looks to strengthen its relationship to Southern California art enthusiasts through two first-time exhibitions: José Guadalupe Posada: Legendary Printmaker of Mexico and Destination Paradise: 100 Years of Catalina Advertising Design. Posada is the first exhibition of Mexican Art to be presented on Catalina Island and Destination Paradise is mined from the museum’s rarely seen or exhibited permanent collection.
The exhibitions will be on view from December 23, 2017 through April 8, 2018.
Volunteer in the great outdoors while combing the sand for debris to help keep our windward beaches pristine. Clean-up locations (Shark Harbor, Little Harbor, Ben Weston and Cottonwood) rotate throughout the year. Meet at the Catalina Island Conservancy House, 125 Clarissa, at 9am, return at 1pm.
