AVALON, CATALINA ISLAND - Under near perfect conditions and sunny skies, the 33rd annual Catalina Marathon introduced a new course record set by female winner Heather Fuhr with a time of 3:07:00.The "Number 1 Off Road Marathon" course did not disappoint this year; the 23 miles of trail were hard and fast with spectacular views of the ocean and even a few buffaloes. This unique event allows athletes an "inside look" into the interior of historic Santa Catalina Island, running from Two Harbors to Avalon across a mostly uninhabited landscape.

AVALON, CATALINA ISLAND - Over the past year and a half, the Island community has generously pitched in to research, plan, build and equip a new clinic aimed at serving the health needs of Catalina's 1,000-plus pets and varied collection of wildlife. As in many Avalon-sized communities, a limited clientele was simply insufficient to support a fully private veterinary practice. So, for four-and-a-half years, Dr. Richard and Anney Denney, partners in the Animal Clinic of Catalina, worked in just 300 square feet lacking not only adequate space, but also equipment used for diagnostics and treatment.

AVALON, CATALINA ISLAND - Sunday, April 11, marks the 13th Annual Rubber Ducky Derby. This fundraiser takes place down at South Beach and draws hundreds of spectators and participants. Pre-purchased ducks can check in for their heat between 9:00am and 11:30am, and the event kicks off at High Noon with the extra large Corporate Ducks racing first. The hundreds of individual ducks will then race to shore in two heats and culminates with the top ten fastest race ducks battling it out for the title of top race duck.

Coalition partners will hold signature gathering events at high-activity/visibility sites such as a grocery store, park, farmer's market, etc. Council members, supervisors, public safety representatives, city managers, county staff, city employees, chamber members, family members - anyone who wants to be there are encouraged to volunteer their time.

This event is a fund raiser to introduce the kids who are going and earn money to have an educational and memorable trip. Avalon Game Day is introducing the Avalon version of monopoly called Avalopoly! The game will be played with 4-6 players at each table and will be a speed version of the game. Winners advance to the final game to play for their very own Avalopoly Game complete with Sterling Silver game pieces that include a Casino, Buffalo, Sea Plane, Steamer and more.
