AVALON, CATALINA ISLAND - Hurricane Rick, once a Category Five storm off the Mexican Coast, has resulted in an extra cruise ship call this week. The increase brings a total of four cruise ships to Catalina Island this week.

AVALON, CATALINA ISLAND - Friday at noon, locals and Island friends protested the closure of Pebbly Beach Road. The group, on foot, some pushing baby strollers, riding bicycles, wheelchairs and others driving the road in golf carts, traveled from Cabrillo Mole to the Buffalo Nickel at Pebbly Beach.

Boats ranging from 18- to 43-feet will pull skiers from ages 12 to 77 from Long Beach to Catalina Island and back. The Catalina Ski Race is an exhilarating yet grueling test of athlete, equipment, team and racing boats.

Avalon Harbor Office Remodel Begins

AVALON, CATALINA ISLAND - Construction has begun on the remodel and expansion of the City of Avalon Harbor Master's office located on the green pleasure pier. The office will expand nine-feet on the front and five-feet on the backside. The additional area will include a new Harbor Master's office, conference room, lunchroom, an expanded area for the harbor patrolmen to do their logs and a more efficient and user-friendly space for boaters.
