Feral Cat Relocation Program

AVALON, CATALINA ISLAND - The Santa Catalina Island Company is working with the Catalina Island Humane Society, our local vet Dr. Richard Denney and the City of Avalon to relocate most of the feral cats in Descanso Canyon and the Casino to reduce the nuisance factor and to protect against potential liabilities that may occur from exposure of humans to diseases spread by contact with the cats and their feces. This could be especially problematic at Descanso Beach with the expansion of the beach area and remodeling of the restaurant and beach club facilities, and the addition of the new Catalina Zipline Eco Tour and Sea Trek activities.

Santa Catalina Island Company Repaving St. Catherine's Way

AVALON, CATALINA ISLAND - The Santa Catalina Island Company will be repaving St. Catherine's Way from the Casino Building to Descanso Beach beginning Wednesday May 5th and continuing through Sunday May 9th, as part of the original redevelopment plan for Descanso Beach Club. In order to minimize the inconvenience, the road will only be closed between the hours of 7:00 p.m. and 1:00 a.m. each day. The road will always be open to emergency vehicles.

Restoration Project begins on Casino exterior

AVALON, CATALINA ISLAND - The Santa Catalina Island Company is commencing a restoration project on the exterior facade of the Casino. For the next several months, the building will be surrounded by scaffold to facilitate the project. Tunnels will be incorporated into the scaffold to allow access to and from the building. "The work will be performed by a historical restoration contractor and is expected to take approximately three months to complete. The Casino will remain open during construction and no tenants or events will be affected" said Eric Berkheimer, Vice President of Real Estate Planning at the Santa Catalina Island Company. There will be no change to the hours of operation at the Avalon Theatre and the Casino tours will run as usual.
