Restoration Project begins on Casino exterior

AVALON, CATALINA ISLAND - The Santa Catalina Island Company is commencing a restoration project on the exterior facade of the Casino. For the next several months, the building will be surrounded by scaffold to facilitate the project. Tunnels will be incorporated into the scaffold to allow access to and from the building. "The work will be performed by a historical restoration contractor and is expected to take approximately three months to complete. The Casino will remain open during construction and no tenants or events will be affected" said Eric Berkheimer, Vice President of Real Estate Planning at the Santa Catalina Island Company. There will be no change to the hours of operation at the Avalon Theatre and the Casino tours will run as usual.

A dozen local children and representatives of the Santa Catalina Island Company, as well as councilman Tim Winslow and contractor Mike Flynn were on hand at a special reception hosted by Alison Wrigley Rusack.

AVALON, CATALINA ISLAND - The Santa Catalina Island Company has announced the addition of a Coastline Cruise aboard the Blanche W between Avalon and Two Harbors. Fares are $38 round-trip per passenger. Senior rates are $34.50 and child rates are $28.50. The tour will operate during the summer season on Saturdays only, beginning August 1, 2009.

Golf Gardens Reopens and New Activities
The Golf Gardens miniature golf course celebrated its grand reopening on June 25th. The course had been closed for renovation since May 1st.

AVALON, CATALINA ISLAND - Around 150 people were on hand for the Catalina Chamber of Commerce Mixer June 25th where Brad Wilson and Joe Caliva of the Santa Catalina Island Company (SCICo) welcomed chamber members and declared the course open. After opening remarks were completed, attendees dined on refreshments catered by the Catalina Island Visitors Country Club and were the first to play the remodeled course. The course is now open to the public daily from 9 AM to 9 PM, weather permitting.
