AVALON, CATALINA ISLAND - Catalina Island Medical Center physician Dr. Monte Mellon and Medical Group Case Manager Christie Epperson, shown above at right, as well as several other staff members took time to meet with Avalon Schools students as part of the Children's Health Fair. Dozens of Avalon Schools students, as well as local preschoolers, were able to meet with several health care professionals and learn more about living a healthy life.

Crafting a stone retaining wall both behind and in front of the hospital, those long-ago Lions helped ensure that island's residents and visitors would have access to health care for generations to come.

AVALON, CATALINA ISLAND - Hundreds of island residents and supporters converged on Falls Canyon Road May 13 to celebrate Avalon hospital's 50th anniversary. The birthday party-style celebration commemorated the opening of the hospital in 1960. Now known as Catalina Island Medical Center, the hospital has expanded over the years, but continues to serve patients in the original facility built by the hard work and dedication of hundreds of community members.

AVALON, CATALINA ISLAND - Nurse Practitioner Diane Chamberlin became part of the CIMC team this month. Chamberlin, who has been seeing patients three days a week, will be living on the island the first half of the week and returning to San Pedro the rest of the week. Educated at Cal State University Long Beach, she has been working at Harbor UCLA's Women's Health Care Clinic and at Little Company of Mary Women and Children's Clinic.
