AVALON, CATALINA ISLAND - Over the past year and a half, the Island community has generously pitched in to research, plan, build and equip a new clinic aimed at serving the health needs of Catalina's 1,000-plus pets and varied collection of wildlife. As in many Avalon-sized communities, a limited clientele was simply insufficient to support a fully private veterinary practice. So, for four-and-a-half years, Dr. Richard and Anney Denney, partners in the Animal Clinic of Catalina, worked in just 300 square feet lacking not only adequate space, but also equipment used for diagnostics and treatment.

Good Time Charlie Had the Blues

AVALON, CATALINA ISLAND - "Good Time Charlie" was having a bad day. Charlie, a brown pelican who frequented the mole in Avalon, had for reasons unknown - perhaps trying to free himself from a tangle of fishing line - suffered a compound fracture of his wing. His other wing was deformed at birth.

AVALON, CATALINA ISLAND - The weather couldn't have been more cooperative nor the view more beautiful as volunteers gathered at One Crescent Avenue on Sunday, August 23 to prepare for "Poochfest: A Night Under the Stars to Benefit Catalina Pets and Wildlife," hosted by Blanny Avalon Hagenah. The fundraiser, coordinated by the Animal Hospital's Compliance Committee with the support of a gaggle of committed volunteers, aimed to raise funding for lifesaving equipment still outstanding to make the new Animal Hospital of Catalina compliant with standards so it can open its doors.

AVALON, CATALINA ISLAND - Thanks to the generosity of the Offield Family Foundation the future of quality veterinary care has been insured! The Foundation has made a generous gift for the building of a new clinic. The new clinic will be located behind the existing humane society shelter and will dramatically increase the size and quality of the clinic and veterinary services.
