AVALON, CATALINA ISLAND - Teresa Macktal, a 19-year-old undergraduate Theater Arts Major and a former member of the Avalon High School Drama Club, was selected to be in the cast of the popular 1970s musical "Hair."
Six years ago, Mary Lou Eroen discovered this promising freshman, who liked to act, but was intimidated by the voice and presence of a very large man and director, Sean Brannock. Reluctuntly, she auditioned and was chosen for her first part as "Ludy" in the classic play NARNIA. From that time until graduation, Teresa, became a part of everything the theater group could produce. She was active in cheerleading and spent countless hours choreographing and practicing routines.
Upon leaving for college her intent was to major in sociology. The night before moving into the dorms, she attended the play "Wicked" and by the ned of the evening realized her passion wasn't sociology, but what had consumed her all along.
"Hair" can be seen at the Carpenter Performing Arts Center on the campus of Cal Sate Long Beach October 10-16, 2008.
