Avalon High School Lancer Lacrosse team comes away with another victory

AVALON, CATALINA ISLAND - The Avalon High School Lancer Lacrosse team played Los Alamitos High School on Saturday on the mainland. It was a very critical game as both Avalon and Los Alamitos were undefeated in league play. Under very hot conditions, almost 95 degrees on the field, the Lancers played another great game and came away with a very strong 6-3 victory.

The defense played extremely well and stifled a very good Los Alamitos attack. Miguel Leyva, our goalie had another fantastic game game and has proven himself as one of the top goalies in our league. Anchoring the defense and having himself a stellar day was Jose Montano - shutting down Los Al's top midfielder. Also playing great on defense was Julio Chavoya, Dallas Kemp and Miguel Murillo. Miguel Murillo is a long stick midfielder who also plays defense, runs on the face off lines and plays midfield with a short stick - he does it all and was a very important part of our victory. Also having a great game coming in on defense on our man-down situations was Efren Cazeras.

Offensively Avalon was a bit slower than usual due to the heat, however our superior conditioning and determination put us on top. Scoring for Avalon was Kellen Zeller with 3 goals. Despite Kellen drawing Los Al's biggest, strongest defender, who played a very physical game, Kellen scored three goals and was able to handle anything that their defense threw at him. Hernan Soto scored two goals and ran Los Al into the ground on transition. Also scoring was Al Bombard who made a very nice play with Juan Olvera attacking from behind the goal. Also contributing to the victory in a very hard fought game was Brian Ramirez, Trevor Zeller, Chris Rodriguez, and Rafa Montano.

Avalon is now in first place with two league games to go one of which is on The Island on April 26th. We play Trabuco Hills this Saturday, April 19th at 1:00 pm at the Field of Dreams. Come on out, it is a lot of fun and our guys love the support.
