AVALON, CATALINA ISLAND - Four girls who graduated last June from Avalon High have taken the needs of the world seriously. Taking a break from their own studies, they have decided to reach out to those less fortunate.

Sabrina Johnson is attending a Christian college, William Jessup University, in Rocklin, CA. However, in May she will take a break and head to Cambodia where she will be working with Agape Missions International. The first half of the trip, she will be working at Rahab's House, which is a community center in the heart of Phnom Penh. She will be serving the staff wherever is needed, whether it be working in the kitchen, cleaning, or painting, all the while building relationships with the staff and families that come for health and dental care. The second half of the trip will be dedicated to  children that have been rescued from sex trafficking. She's going to be working in a restoration center. This center helps transition the children to a more normal life and eventually adoptive parents.

Charlie Armstrong Beche is currently in Mazatlan, Mexico with Youth With A Mission (YWAM, a worldwide missions organization). Charlie is enrolled in a Discipleship Training School (D.T.S.). She's taking classes that will help her to extend physical and spiritual help to those in need. After three months training, she will be going to Haiti where she will put into practice what she's learned. The St. Marc base in Haiti has had a drastic influx of orphans due to the earth quake. Charlie loves children. Last year, she T.A.ed at Avalon High with the special needs kids, and has taught Sunday School for the past three years at Avalon Community Church. With her prior experience and current training, she is sure to be a blessing to the orphans.

Aubree Hunt, who was mentioned in the valedictorian speech as being known for her faith, is now in Honolulu, Hawaii with YWAM. She also felt a strong call to go share her faith with others. She too is taking classes in a D.T.S. and April will find her anywhere from a quiet Fijian village to a bustling Indian city. Living among the people, Aubree and a group of young adults, will be able to express their faith through their testimonies, participation in friendship evangelism, a drama team, or just sharing the Gospel one-on-one. We expect to see her home in June and are looking forward to hearing of her adventures around the world.

Katie Palmer surprised us all with a last minute decision to join long time island resident Dawn Shawhan in Colorado Springs at yes, you guessed it, Youth With A Mission! Do you sense a theme here? We look forward to seeing where God will have her team heading off to at the completion of her three months of D.T.S. classes.

These Avalon girls are out to change the world as they live out their faith. They value your prayers and best wishes!

For a good meal in Avalon head to Avalon's newest diner Original Jack's Country Kitchen. It serves the heartiest, "like mom used to make" food and the decor is bright and nostalgic. OJ's is open from 6:00 a.m. to 10 p.m. for breakfast (served until 2pm daily), lunch & dinner. It proudly features fresh eggs from cage-free hens, Jidori free-range chicken, Kobi beef and all natural Niman Ranch beef and pork. Another delightful feature is the fresh baked bolillos, croissants, cakes and pies made daily at its adjoining bakery. And what would a diner be without malts, shakes, hot fudge sundaes and banana splits?
