By Chamber of Commerce

AVALON, CATALINA ISLAND - Catalina Express:
All departures to and from the island have been canceled for the rest of today.
Current weather readings indicate winds at 25 kts gusting to 30 kts.  There is a Gale Warning through this evening.
The forecast for Friday shows a much improved weather situation, and it is hoped that operations can resume tomorrow morning.
The Catalina Express Office on the Mole will be closed for the rest of today.
Catalina Express Call Center is open for questions: 310-510-1212.
Additional information is being posted on the Catalina Express website.

Island Express Helicopters:
Island Express was able to get one flight to and from the island before having to shut down again around noon.  Additional flights will be attempted if weather improves.

Avalon Schools:
Avalon Schools will be closed today as a precaution against mud slides.  The school will likely be closed Friday as well.

Rock Slide in Avalon:
Pebbly Beach Road remains closed from the Catherine Hotel to the Mole while boulders are removed from the street.

Catalina Kid Ventures:
Rain has damaged the roof of the Catalina Kid Ventures facility.  As a precautionary measure, Kid Ventures will operate from Avalon City Hall for the foreseable future.  The Kid Ventures facility is being assessed, and modular units will be brought in until a new facility can be built.  The health and safety of participating children is the top priority, and dedicated staff are working diligently to ensure a seamless transition.  Questions should be addressed to the City of Avalon Recreation Department: 310-510-1987.
