AVALON, CATALINA ISLAND - Please join us this Sunday, December 6th at 10:00 a.m., as Calvary Bible Church hosts a special Bible Teaching & Communion Fellowship Service in the front lobby of the U.S. Bank Building, 303 Crescent Avenue (near the corner of Crescent & Metropole), offering a Biblical study entitled In The Beginning, God: The Book of Genesis, Chapters 6 & 7.
The greatest lesson of Christianity is rooted in Genesis, not just the story of the beginning of the entire universe, planet earth, and the men and women who live on it, but the very beginning of God's plan for our salvation from sin, that which separates us from Him. Sin, which began in the Garden of Eden, was wiped away forever beginning in the Garden of Gethsemane, where Jesus Christ willingly gave Himself up to an angry mob to be crucified, so that each of us might have a direct relationship with our Creator. The link between the birth of mankind in the Garden of Eden and the death of its Savior begins in Genesis. To truly understand your Christian faith, the need for repentance of our sins, and what "salvation" is all about, one needs to go back to "the beginning." Although many of us are a little apprehensive about reading the Old Testament of the Bible for fear that it might be too difficult to understand or just too boring, you will soon find that the Old Testament is the key to understanding the New Testament -- a key that unlocks the door to our entrance into our Lord's Heavenly Kingdom! Please join us this Sunday, as we explore "The Greatest Story Ever Told," beginning in the Book of Genesis, a story of failure, salvation, and restoration with a compassionate God. What could be better than learning how we can be picked up from our destructive lives and be healed in the arms of a loving, living Savior, who -- without question -- loves us so much? Paul, in his letters to the early Church, tells us that it is Jesus Christ who saves us from sin and gives us eternal life -- we do not save ourselves. Trying to be "a good person" or doing good deeds does not lead to salvation. To both Jews and pagans, Paul preached "repentance [of sin] toward God and faith [commitment] toward our Lord Jesus Christ." (Acts 20:21) It is only by our repentance of sin (turning away from it) and direct commitment to Jesus Christ -- not belonging to a particular religion, following a church denomination, or doing "good works" -- that changes in our life and our eternal salvation are assured. Peter tells us how easy it is to find salvation: "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit." (Acts 2:38) Are you ready to receive the free gift of eternal life with Jesus Christ? Each week's study is taught by Pastor Jason Gant, bringing you the loving and living Word of God from the Bible, chapter-by-chapter, verse-by-verse. Everyone is welcomed, and transportation is happily provided. Attendees at this Sunday's service will have the opportunity to ask their Bible questions and take part in a brief discussion period after the teaching. Celebration of the Lord's Supper for believers follows the service with our "Coffee & Carbs Fellowship" immediately afterwards. For more information, please call 310-510-8300. Can't join us?
