AVALON, CATALINA ISLAND - The U.S. Coast Guard is offering a special S.E.T.S. Training Class in the Avalon City Hall Council Chambers on Thursday, July 9, 2009 at 6:00 p.m.
The S.E.T.S. Training (Surveillance, Elicitation, Testing of Security, Suspicious Behavior Identification) is for all maritime stakeholders and their employees of Catalina Island, persons involved with the maritime industry, and this training will make those of the Catalina boating community better equipped to interact with Federal, State, and local agencies regarding Maritime Domain Awareness (MDA) issues.
Attendees will also meet members of the Coast Guard Auxiliary who have been trained to assist the maritime community in the detection and reporting of MDA related information. Attending and completing the S.E.T.S. training program could be a vital component in the prevention of another terrorist attack.
Questions may be directed to Auxiliarist Lenny Douthett at 310-521-3709 or via email at Lynwood.D.Douthett@uscg.mil. Maritime stakeholders of Catalina Island are encouraged to RSVP by email or phone no later than July 7, 2009.
