Santa Catalina Island is a great place to bird watch. There are approximately 280 species of birds recorded for the Island with less than 40 considered permanent residents - the rest are migrant or summer breeders. One bird on the Island, the Orange-crowned Warbler (Vermivora celata), has sparked the interest of researchers from the Smithsonian Migratory Bird Center and the University of California, Riverside.

Museum Salutes Catalina's Hollywood Heritage

The Catalina Island Museum invites you to attend its annual Hollywood Tribute on Saturday, June 4, 2005. This exciting, day-long special event is a salute to the Island's colorful history as one of Hollywood's favorite locations. This year's event will include the 18th Annual Silent Film Benefit in the historic Avalon Theatre, and a lively Big Band Dance and Silent Auction in the world famous Casino Ballroom. This star-studded event will also feature a special tribute to some of Hollywood's most beloved TV moms. Avalon Harbor Activity Report - March 2005

Weather in March was not the best for boaters visiting Catalina Island, with 8 SCA occurring mostly on weekends. Harbor Patrol Officers were kept busy removing and installing dinghy docks with each SCA received. Rosie's Fish Market, Joe's Rent-a-Boat and the Wetspot all opened for the season during the last week of March.
