Pet Food Recall

In case you haven't yet heard, there has been a major, nationwide, voluntary pet food recall, with over 40 brands of cat food and dog food having been affected, including Iams, Eukanuba, Purina and Science Diet, as well as certain store brands distributed by Wal-mart, Kroger, and Safeway, among others. The recall covers "cuts and gravy" style dog food and cat food, consisting of chunks or slices of meat in gravy, sold in cans and foil pouches. Menu foods, a major producer of pet food, announced the recall late last week.

AmeriCorps Volunteers Benefit CIHS!

In February, the Catalina Island Humane Society became one of the fortunate beneficiaries of the time and talents of seven hard-working AmeriCorps volunteers. A program of the Corporation for National and Community service, AmeriCorps is a network of local, state, and national service programs connecting more than 70,000 Americans each year in intensive service to meet critical needs in education, public safety, health and the environment. AmeriCorps members serve with more than 2,000 non-profits, public agencies, and faith-based community organizations across the country. Since 1994, more than 400,000 men and women have provided needed assistance to millions through their AmeriCorps service.
