Last minute preparations are underway for Catalina Island Medical Center's annual Catalina Health Fair, which will be held Thursday, April 17, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Casino Ballroom.
"I'm really impressed with the number of providers this year," organizer Dawn Sampson said. "Those who attend will find dozens of providers, many of which are for the first time."
One of the providers that will be new to the health fair is the San Pedro Mental Health Center. Providing low cost mental health services to those without insurance, the San Pedro Mental Health Center will be partnering with the Catalina Island Medical Center to expand local mental health services.
"Two psychiatrists and a counselor will soon be providing services to our residents," Sampson said. "They will also be here at the health fair to meet residents and answer questions about the services they provide."
In the next few months, the San Pedro Mental Health Center will begin providing services on the island. They services will be available on a sliding scale based on income.
Those who attend the health fair will also be able to take advantage of an array of health services and information. Many of the services will be available free or for a greatly reduced cost.
"Catalina has an excellent health fair," said CIMC CEO Bryan Ballard. "I'm really impressed with the large attendance - it's great so many individuals take advantage of such a broad spectrum of health services that can make a difference in their health in such a convenient and affordable venue."
