Avalon Harbor Activity Report - February 2005

Again, weather is the top story for February. Ten rainy days dropped over 6.14 inches of rain, bringing a total of 13.14 inches in two months and the season rainfall from Sept to date to 21.31 inches. In addition to rain, there were 6 SCA and 2 gale warnings. With 3 weekends of bad weather conditions, boat traffic in February was slower than usual. Harbor personnel were kept busy putting floats/docks in and out and assisting boaters.

Over 500 divers and volunteers participated in the 24-1/2 Annual Avalon Harbor Underwater Cleanup on Saturday, February 27th.  Avalon Harbor got a superb underwater spring-cleaning with over 2.33 tons of trash collected.  The event is very popular as this is the only time diving is allowed in the Harbor.

Winter rates continue through Palm Sunday.  Boaters who are moored in the harbor and pay 2 days in advance will receive the next 5 consecutive days free.

Easter is early this year - Sunday, March 27th.  With good weather, the Harbor should be very busy with during Spring Break Vacation.  The Shoreline Yacht Club will visit Avalon Harbor for their annual St. Patrick's Day cruise the weekend of March 19th with 40 boats.

The summer season is quickly approaching.  Joe's Rent-a-Boat and Rosie's Fish Market will both open the 2nd week in March.

The winter rate ends Palm Sunday (March 20th) and the shoulder rate begins Thursday, March 24th and continues until June 15th.  Boaters who are moored in Avalon and pay for Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday in advance will receive Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday free.
