Being hospitalized can be a challenge at the best of times, but during the holidays it can be particularly difficult.
Thanks to the Christmas spirit of the island community, Catalina Island Medical Center's skilled nursing facility patients often have a little extra holiday cheer.
"Our patients appreciate visitors and volunteers throughout the year," Chief Patient Care Services Doreen Macktal said. "It's particularly special during this time of year."
Frequently, those who wish to spread holiday cheer include CIMC's patients on their holiday shopping list. At this time, there are three women and two men living full-time at CIMC. Toiletries, warm clothes and classic movies on DVD or VHS are appropriate gifts for the senior residents.
While home-baked goodies are often not recommended due to restrictive diets, the patients do appreciate the treat of Christmas carolers, music makers or story readers.
