Return to Previous Page
Posted: Friday, December 07, 2007 - Southern California Edison

Phase One of the Fresh Water Rationing Plan will be implemented December 18, 2007. Phase One does not include rationing but does impose restrictions on the use of fresh water. These restrictions are necessary to curtail non-essential use of fresh water.

Phase One is implemented when the total usable surface water stored at Thompson Reservoir drops below 600 acre feet. While Phase One is in effect, the following restrictions are placed upon the uses of fresh water:

  • The washing of streets, driveways, parking lots, patios, piers, sidewalks, tennis courts, walkways, and other hard-surfaced areas by hosing or by use of fresh water directly from faucets or other outlets is prohibited except that it shall be permitted to wash such areas with fresh water utilizing a bucket or container not exceeding a three-gallon capacity.
  • The washing of motor vehicles, trailer, boats or airplanes by hosing or by use of fresh water directly from faucets or other outlets is prohibited except it shall be permitted to wash such motor vehicles, trailers, boats or airplanes with fresh water utilizing a bucket or container not exceeding a three-gallon capacity.
  • The use of fresh water from fire hydrants, at any time, for any purpose other than fire suppression is prohibited.
  • The use of fresh water for soil compaction purposes is prohibited.
  • All watering of outdoor landscaping vegetation by hoses or sprinkling systems is prohibited, except as expressly permitted herein. The watering of outdoor landscaping by hoses or sprinkler systems shall only be permitted between the hours of 7 a.m. and 9 a.m. and between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m., when Pacific Daylight time is in effect. During the period of Pacific Standard Time, watering of outdoor landscaping by hoses or sprinklers will only be permitted between 6 a.m. and 8 a.m. and between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. Watering by use of a container or bucket not exceeding a three-gallon capacity will be permitted at any time.

Phase One shall be lifted when the total usable surface water stored in Thompson Reservoir is equal to or exceeds 600 acre feet.
