Plants can be so beautiful! If you're a person who loves to "help out nature" by gardening, here are a few tips to keep your pets safe while maintaining your outdoor or indoor garden.
Firstly, there are plants that have been found to be toxic to your pets. These include Lily of the Valley, Oleander, Rhododendron, Azalea, Rosebay, and many others. While it's possible to try to train your animals to stay away from areas where there are poisonous plants, it's best to avoid having such plants there in the first place, of course.
Pesticides and fertilizers can be dangerous to your pets, also, so please be sure to keep them inaccessible to you animals, whether you are storing the products or using them outdoors, or indoors.

Speaking of insecticides, it's extremely important to be sure to read all instructions carefully when planning to use any flea control product, especially on your cats! There are many brands on the market that are safe for dogs only, and they can be toxic or even fatal to your cats. Unfortunately, these tragedies are reported every year. If you use a flea control product and your cat becomes ill, please phone your veterinarian immediately, or contact the ASPCA Poison Control Center at their toll-free phone number: 1-888-426-4435.

And now, a more pleasant topic: here at the Catalina Island Humane Society, we have nine little kittens available for potential adoption, and we invite you to come and meet them! There are males and females, just a few months old. Some are black and white, others all black. They are all delightful! Please phone 310-510-1900, and leave a message with your phone number. Ann, our trailer manager, or a volunteer, will call you back to make an appointment for you to come and visit these great little cats!
