The City of Avalon is pleased to announce Bruce Belland, original lead singer of The Four Preps, has been named official Grand Marshal of Avalon's 2007 Fourth of July Parade.
This year marks the 50th Anniversary of the song most associated with Catalina, "26 Miles Across the Sea...Santa Catalina Is Awaitin' for Me..." which was written and performed by Bruce Belland and the Four Preps. The quartet formed while still in school at Hollywood High, but in just a few years, The Four Preps and their million-seller hit song 26 Miles (Santa Catalina) took the world by storm. "At the Museum, it's our mission to celebrate and commemorate important people in our community's history. Bruce's song has provided the Island with 50 years of free publicity," says Executive Director Stacey Otte. "We are excited that Bruce has been selected to be the Grand Marshal--it is a great honor and Bruce is thrilled to be a part of Avalon's annual Independence Day celebration."
After his 4th of July visit, Bruce will be returning to the island on the 15th of July along with former bandmate and now world renowned concert pianist Lincoln Mayorga, and special guests, The Chordettes, to launch the fall concert tour of The New Four Preps with a benefit at Descanso Beach Club. All proceeds from this memorable event will support the Museum's efforts to preserve and share Catalina's unique cultural heritage.
