Catalina Island Medical Center recently received a bit of beautification from the Catalina Island Conservancy.

On Wednesday Conservancy employees and volunteers arrived with dozens of live plants and set to work improving the medical centers landscaping. Most of the plantings were native plants, including Catalina cherry and Catalina manzanita. Work was also completed pruning and weeding the existing plants, including ficus trees that are as old as the hospital building, which was built in 1960.

"We're grateful that the Conservancy is so supportive," said CIMC Administrator Bill Greene. "It's nice that were able to use native plants in our landscaping."

The new landscaping was completed to coincide with the medical center's open house, which will be held on Wednesday, April 20, from 6 to 9 p.m. During tours of the facility, the public will be able to see the work that was completed during the renovation project. Appetizers and refreshments will also be available.
