Diabetes and HIV are two conditions that can only be addressed once they've been diagnosed. Thanks to the Catalina Island Health Fair, hundreds of local residents will be able to make sure those conditions don't impact their lives. "Diabetes and HIV testing will be available at this year's health fair," said organizer Dawn Sampson. "One of the biggest benefits of the health fair is that it allows people to be screened for these and many other conditions."
A number of additional health screenings will once again be available at this year's health fair
Osteoporosis is a chronic condition that afflicts older women by lessening their bone density. Without treatment, it can lead to frequent broken bones and other problems.
The pulmonary function test measures lung capacity. Low lung capacity can indicate a number of problems, including emphysema. Blood pressure is another vital function that should be checked regularly to avoid devastating afflictions such as a stroke.
Hearing and vision screenings indicate whether or not a hearing aid or glasses are needed.
The Catalina Island Health Fair will be held on Thursday, April 28, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Casino Ballroom. For more information, contact Dawn Sampson at 510-0520.
