Sunday, April 30, 2006 - Saturday, May 6, 2006 Sunday, April 30, 2006 1245 Harbor officers received a call from a concerned friend regarding the well being of a man on a vessel in Avalon. Officers located the man on shore and escorted him to the Sheriffs station.
Monday, May 1, 2006 0200 While on routine patrol Harbor officers observed a man going from skiff to skiff on the dinghy dock. Officers contacted the man and determined that he did not own any dinghies secured to the dock. The man was asked to leave the area. 1325 Harbor officers received a call for assistance from a camp boat that lost power. Officers towed the boat to a mooring where it was secured.
Tuesday May 2, 2006 0930 Harbor officers red tagged a vessel in the Casino anchorage. April 1 to October 31 any vessel anchored for more than 30 consecutive days shall provide proof of valid insurance as specified in Avalon Municipal code. 1015 Harbor officers received a report of gas stolen from a skiff at a city dock.

Friday, May 5, 2006 1830 After a noticeable wind shift many vessels moored in Avalon began reporting that they were making contact with other vessels. Harbor officers provided advice and responded to at least half a dozen calls. One vessel wrapped its propellers in mooring lines while trying to moor. Officers secured that vessel and a diver was contacted. 2030 While on routine patrol, harbor officers found two rigid bottom inflatable skiffs. The dinghies were secured to a mooring and reports filed. 2145 Harbor officers warned and advised the owner of a rigid bottom inflatable that California Vehicle code requires the vessel be registered and proper numbering be displayed on the vessel. The owner secured the vessel.
Saturday, May 06, 2006 0000 While on routine patrol Harbor officers found an inflatable dinghy drifting outside of Avalon Harbor. The dinghy was towed to a mooring where it was secured and a report filed. 1100 Harbor officers received a call on VHF radio from a vessel North of Avalon reporting that their boat was on fire. Baywatch and LA County Fire were dispatched to the call. Baywatch reported that the vessel had overheated the engine. The vessel was turned over to a commercial towing company. 1200 Harbor officers contacted the owner of a vessel moored in Avalon regarding maintenance of vessels. Under Avalon Municipal Code vessels moored or anchored in city waters shall be sound and properly maintained. 1350 Harbor officers received several complaints that the Avalon fuel dock was not open during the posted operating hours. 1750 Harbor officers responded to a mooring where a 54' vessel was in danger of making contact with another vessel near by. Officers adjusted the lines to eliminate the problem. 1815 Harbor officers responded to a commercial vessel that had lost power just outside Avalon Harbor. Officers towed the vessel to a mooring where it was secured. 1910 Harbor officers received a call for assistance when two vessels were banging into each other. Officers adjusted lines to eliminate problems due to surge and high tide. 2220 Harbor officers received a complaint of a generator running after hours at an Avalon mooring. Officers contacted the owner and the generator was secured.
