HIKE Catalina Island

On the first Saturday of each month, HIKE into the interior. The HIKE destination is determined by the education department, taking seasonal points of interest into consideration. Participants come prepared with curiosity and openness to a different kind of learning.

Besides intriguing questions, THE HIKE offers a venue for inspiration: stunning vistas, fascinating wildlife, and mingled scents of chaparral, woodland, and the sea.  The gift of silence punctuates the experience.

Transportation, discovery tools, and snacks and extra water for THE HIKE are all arranged for you making for an easy getaway into the wild interior of Catalina. Conservancy Staff and Naturalists facilitate this unique experience available nowhere else.

There is a program fee of $35 per person to cover costs (Conservancy members and volunteers - $30). Fee is due upon registration. Space is a limiting factor on islands and on all HIKES so please call the Education Office to reserve your spot at 310-510-0954 as early as you can.

Please note that on all HIKES, regardless of difficulty, it is important to wear sturdy shoes, bring water and a backpack along with your bagged lunch.  HIKE destinations are subject to change without notice.

Difficulty Ratings are as follows:

Class    Description
I.      Flat, easy.  Up to 2-4 miles
II.     Some climbs, moderate.  3-6 miles
III.    Some rough terrain may be steep and difficult.  5-7 miles
IV.    May be off trail, steep, difficult.  5-8 miles
V.     Extreme, steep, off trail.  8 miles or more
