Sunday, March 26, 2006 - Saturday, April 1, 2006 Sunday, March 26, 2006 0200 Harbor officers received a report of a generator running after hours at an Avalon mooring. The owner of the vessel was warned and advised of AMC code regarding generator use. 0715 Harbor officers were called to assist a vessel that had wrapped its propellers in a mooring line. Officers secured the vessel and a diver was called. 1315 Harbor officers received a call of spear fisherman entering the dive park from a vessel anchored outside the park. Officers checked the area and found no divers with spear fishing equipment.
Monday, March 27, 2006 0150 Harbor officers observed a fishing vessel getting ready to anchor in front of Avalon Harbor. Officers contacted the vessel and advised the owner of accepted anchorage areas. 0800 Harbor officers and the city maintenance crews raised ramps and pulled certain floats in preparation of forecasted weather conditions. 1230 Harbor officers contacted a vessel owner regarding movement of his vessel. 1515 While on routine patrol Harbor officers observed two seagulls tangled in fishing lines on a powerboat. Officers were able to control the birds long enough to free them without injury. 2120 While on routine patrol officers found a utility room door open. The door was secured.
Tuesday March 28, 2006 0924 Harbor officers received a weather bulletin Small Craft Advisory for SE winds 15 to 25 knots. The red flag was raised to alert boaters. 1130 Harbor officers received a report from a cross channel carrier reporting that a vessel from another commercial operation had struck the side of their vessel while making an approach to a dock. Officers interviewed operators of vessels involved and no injury to persons were reported. 1420 Harbor officers received a report that a 65' sailing vessel lost its stern line in windy conditions. Officers contacted a crewmember aboard the vessel and it was decided that due to weather conditions, the vessel should be towed to a more secure mooring. Officers and crew secured the vessel to a mooring designed to hold vessels up to 100'.
Thursday March 29, 2006 1045 Harbor officers received a report of a lost ramp belonging to one of the cross channel carriers. A diver located the ramp under the float and returned it to the float deck. 1800 Harbor officers received a report of a vessel collision at a mooring in Avalon harbor. Responding officers reported there were no injuries and accident reports were given to parties involved.
Friday March 31, 2006 0500 Harbor officers observed a commercial fishing vessel attempting to anchor in the Lovers Cove Marine preserve. Harbor officers contacted the operator of the vessel and advised him of accepted anchorages in the area. 0550 Harbor officers gave a courtesy ride to a moored vessel in Avalon harbor. Officers observed two vessels in close proximity and adjusted lines to prevent any damage to ether vessel. 1700 Harbor officers recovered a sailing vessel that had dragged anchor and snagged a mooring in Descanso bay. The sailing vessel was secured to a mooring and attempts were made to locate the owner. 1730 While on routine patrol officers observed a dinghy in a deteriorated state with no California registration numbers visible. Per AMC code the skiff was removed from the dock, impounded and the owner contacted and advised of the violations.
