For nearly a decade, Catalina Island residents who aren't sure about the sound of things have been turning to Allied Hearing Services. Audiologist Marilyn Noble and her staff offer hearing testing, hearing devices, earmolds for music and watersports and hearing protection. Allied's hearing tests will be just one of dozens of free screenings available at the Catalina Island Community Health Fair scheduled for Thursday, April 27, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Casino Ballroom.
In addition to having their hearing testing, those who attend the health fair will also be able to have a range of screenings, including blood pressure, pulmonary function and blood sugar levels. Low cost blood tests will also be available as will a wide variety of information about a number of health issues.
The Catalina Island Community Health Fair is hosted and organized by the Catalina Island Medical Center. Dozens of volunteers and hundreds of dollars in donations make the event possible. "Each year we serve between 300 and 400 local residents at the health fair," said CIMC Social Worker and event organizer Dawn Sampson. "It's a very effective way to improve the health of the community." To volunteer at the health fair, call Sampson at (310) 510-0520. To make a contribution, send a check to CIMC, P.O. Box 1563, Avalon CA 90704.
