Friday was a good day for a dozen local charities. The Avalon Tuna Club Foundation, the charitable arm of the oldest salt-water sportsfishing organization in the world, gave away more than $20,000 in donations to various island groups. Catalina Island Medical Center, which was the original recipient of the Tuna Club's charity, received the largest check, $5,000. The club also donated to the Avalon Rotary, the Catalina Island Museum, the Catalina Island Humane Society, the Children's Dental Clinic and Avalon School. Several city programs also received donations, including the Fishing Derby, the Tin Cup, the Seniors Program, the Youth Advisory Council, Flag Football and Kids Basketball.
