On November 8th, nearly 700 athletes traveled to the City of Avalon to compete in the 24th Annual Catalina Island Triathlon. Once again, the event was a huge success, thanks to a challenging course, perfect race-day weather, and the participation of so many great athletes.

The CIT, traditionally the last triathlon of the year, provided participants with a difficult course, including a half-mile swim past and around the Catalina Pier, followed by a 15-kilometer cycle. The course concluded with a three-mile run to Hamilton Cove, up three steep hills, and finishing in the heart of Avalon to the cheers of surrounding spectators.

After the race, many participants remarked that though the course was challenging, it made finishing the race much more rewarding. Post-race spirits were up, because of the great Catalina weather and atmosphere, and because of the great sense of accomplishment felt by all racers.

Race Director and President Jack Caress agrees. "The weather was absolutely perfect for our 15th Catalina Triathlon, which set the tone for the race.  Some great finishes and the warm sunshine made for a beach party atmosphere we do not typically see in November.  It was a great day all around.

Santa Clara resident Carlo Faccino took the overall first place in this year's race with the 2008 Triathlon's only time under one hour, a time of 59:21.6. Rebecca Divita, from San Diego, was the first woman to cross the finish line with an impressive 1:11:18.
