LA County Rescue Boat Weekly Activity - Week ending November 9, 2008

For the week of November 3-9, 2008.

11/3
13:57 Baywatch Avalon Respond to EMS Call,  to the vessel "Carol Lee" 14 miles east of Avalon for a male with a medical complaint. The patient was treated aboard Baywatch Avalon and then hoisted into USCG helo 6016 for transport to mainland  Hospital.

11/4
09:45 Baywatch Avalon Respond to EMS CALL, Feamale with possible trauma. The patient was treated on scene and transported to local Hospital for further care.
10:00 Baywatch Marina del Rey / BWT Charity function with Koru Care group from New Zealand.  USCG Halibut and LASD Tradition also on scene for the Charity Function.
14:40 Baywatch Marina del Rey / Baywatch Santa Monica Respond to EMS call at RBHQ. Male with possible trauma. Pt was treated and transferred to FS 110.

07:15 Baywatch Avalon Respond to EMS call, Male. Death confirmed pre DHS policy 814, (lividity and rigor). Pt released to Sheriff's Dept. personnel.
08:09 Baywatch Isthmus Ocean Rescue / EMS call responded to the Isthmus pier for a male. E155 pulled the man from the water and treated him for minor lacerations and minor hypothermia prior to our arrival.

17:14 Baywatch Avalon Respond to EMS call to Avalon City Hall for employee with a medical complaint. Patient was assessed, treated, and transported by AFD R4 and Baywatch to local Hospital..
22:14 Baywatch Avalon Respond to EMS call, for a male with medical complaint. Patient was treated and transported to local Hospital, for further care.

11/7
09:00 Baywatch Avalon / Baywatch Isthmus Ocean Rescue responded to a report of a runaway 60ft power boat at top RPM in Avalon Harbor. Baywatch Isthmus, Baywatch Avalon, Avalon Harbor, Avalon Fire, USCG and LASD responded. Lifeguards treated two injured persons and dove the badly damaged vessel to survey and patch a major hull breach which was taking on water. Section Chief Canning notified via landline. Baywatch Redondo Move up to Island for coverage. BWS Move up to cover Baywatch Redondo .
16:40  Baywatch Avalon Respond to EMS call male with trauma. The patient was treated and Copter 16 was requested for transport to a trauma center with E55 as landing zone coordinator.

11/8 Gale warning
01:09 Baywatch Avalon Respond to EMS call, male with trauma. The patient was treated and transported to local Hospital with the help of AFD.
09:11 Baywatch Isthmus Respond to Ocean Rescue dispatched by CGLA to the West End for a report of a vessel going aground. The vessel was located in no distress and released.
09:58 Baywatch Isthmus Respond to EMS call, dispatched by CGLA for a report of a scuba diver injured . Baywatch Isthmus standby at the Chamber for the patient.  Notifications made. The patient was assessed and treated in the chamber.
12:06 Baywatch Cabrillo Respond to Ocean Rescue Boat distress off Point Fermin 20 ft ob 2 POB vessel towed to Cabrillo launch ramp and released.
16:53  Baywatch Cabrillo Respond to Ocean Rescue Boat distress off LA Light and going aground, 18 ft outboard with 3 POB, vessel rescued and towed to Cabrillo launch ramp and released.
19:15 Baywatch Avalon Respond to EMS call, Still alarm at AFD Station. Male with medical complaint.  Pt. treated and transported to local hospital.
19:55 Baywatch Avalon Respond to EMS call, male with minor trauma. Pt. assessed, back boarded and transported to local Hospital.
21:52 Baywatch Avalon Respond to EMS call, male in custody of LASD has medicall episode.  Pt. assessed and transported to local Hospital.

11/9 Gale Warnings in effect
00:56 Baywatch Avalon Respond to EMS call, female with medical complaint.  Pt. assessed and transported to local Hosdpital.
05:20 Baywatch Isthmus Respond to Ocean Rescue dispatched by CGLA for a report of at least 4 flares in the vicinity of Big Fisherman's Cove.  Located a 51' sail "Windward" about 10' from the rocks.  LASD 187 and 187A were requested to help due to high winds in excess of 35kts. The vessel was towed to the CG SAR mooring.
09:00-10:00 Baywatch Marina del Rey VIP Tour Super Scooper crew
09:57 Baywatch Isthmus Respond to Ocean Rescue dispatched to the CG SAR mooring for the vessel "Windward" reported taking on water.  LASD 187 and 187A were requested to help due to high winds in excess of 35kts. The vessel was located and assessed.  The vessel was taking on water with its bilge pumps keeping up. The vessel was released to the operator. The CG was notified.
10:25 Baywatch Redondo Respond to Ocean Rescue Boat distress sighted from the Redondo Harbor Patrol office. The vessel was broken down and being blown to rocks in high winds inside harbor with 3 POB. Vessel taken into tow.
11:34 Baywatch Santa Monica Baywatch Marina del Rey Respond to Ocean Rescue   40' Sailboat adrift south entrance 0 POB Vessel taken in tow by BWS back to MDR. MDR Sheriffs relieve tow.
11:45 Baywatch Marina del Rey Respond to Ocean Rescue Still alarm main channel MDR 35ft sailboat with 4 POB was blown on to the south jetty. The vessel was towed off, the hull inspected and released.
11:56 Baywatch Santa Monica Respond to Ocean Rescue 45' Sailboat adrift south entrance 0 POB, unable to attach line prior to going aground.
14:04 Baywatch Avalon Respond to Ocean rescue USCG requests that Baywatch Avalon check on a 24' sailboat that broke free from its anchor, drifting about 2 miles northeast of the east end.  Crew responds to GPS position given by the CG. Surface visual and radar searches both come up with negative results. CG notified, and released Baywatch Avalon back to Avalon.
14:42 Baywatch Isthmus Respond to Ocean Rescue Isthmus Harbor Patrol requests help with vessel "Windward". Owner/operator has cut mooring line and intends to beach vessel (his words) at the campground. Operator is despondent. Command of the vessel was taken by LASD deputies and OLS Sturdivant after the vessel's keel clearly struck the beach. The vessel was driven back to the CG SAR mooring and secured with the help of the LASD, IHP, Baywatch Isthmus and mooring crew. The operator was arrested and taken to jail.
14:45 Baywatch Santa Monica Respond to Ocean Rescue 24' Sailboat 1 POB towed off south rocks inside MDR main channel. Hull intact, vessel released under own power.
19:17 Baywatch Isthmus Respond to Public Assist Isthmus Harbor Patrol notified BW Isthmus that the vessel "Windward" has sunk on the CG SAR mooring.  A search of the area was conducted by BW Isthmus and the Isthmus Harbor Patrol.  Nothing was found.  There were no POB at the time of the sinking. USCG LA was notified as well as the LASD. 
19:55 Baywatch Redondo Respond to Ocean Rescue  Reported struggling surfer off Hagertty's had washed to shoreline. Gale winds just subsided at sunset. Baywatch Redondo, A14, 142,143, B14, LR100, SECT. 5, COPTER 18, PV PD. Nothing found after extensive search of waters and shoreline. Suspected victims board bag was not found. He apparently left after RP went to get help.
