The Avalon Medical Development Corporation Board of Directors recently received a $25,000 grant from Los Angeles County with the assistance of Supervisor Don Knabe's office. The grant was a result of on-going efforts to raise funds for the Catalina Island Medical Center 2004 renovation.
Nearly completed, the construction project allows the medical center to comply with several mandated improvements at the facility. Air filtration and patient capacity in the emergency room, handicapped accessible rest rooms and inadequate flooring are just some of the areas that are being addressed.
"Supervisor Knabe helped to obtain this grant which is a significant boost for our fund-raising efforts," CIMC Administrator Bill Greene said. "We're grateful that the supervisor has recognized the importance of this project."
Supervisor Knabe joins a number of individuals who have contributed support for the renovation, including Avalon residents, Island supporters and members of the Tuna Club.
"We appreciate those who have already donated," Greene said. "And we're hoping that others will choose to support our efforts to improve health care on the island."
Donations may be made by mailing checks to Catalina Island Medical Center, P.O. Box 1563, Avalon, CA 90704. For more information, contact Bill Greene at (310) 510-0700.
