This Sunday, September 28th at 10:00 AM, Calvary Bible Church hosts a special Bible Teaching Fellowship in the park across the street from Avalon City Hall, offering a study of Paul's Letter to The Romans, Chapters 7 & 8. While on his third missionary journey to Asia (57 AD), Paul wrote a letter to the believers in Rome, exhorting them to beware of the popular Jewish heresy of the day: a strict legalistic following of the Jewish law as a way to salvation.
In his letter to the churches in Rome, Paul addresses the struggle we all have between our sinful nature and our inner being. Our struggle is that, knowing what is right, we yet let our sinful nature persuade us to do something else that we find more pleasant. But when we make a commitment to Jesus Christ, we not only have these former sins forgiven, but we are given a new life, a new "birth" as it were. Our natural life, so to speak, is impregnated by the Spirit of the Living God, giving us a new life and guiding us in the way God wishes us to follow. Attaining righteousness is impossible without the guiding Spirit of God.
Paul reiterates that the death of Jesus Christ saves us from sin -- we do not save ourselves. Trying to be "a good person" or doing good deeds does not lead to salvation. Peter echoes Paul's words and tells us "there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved." (Acts 4:12) It is only by our repentance of sin and direct commitment to Jesus Christ -- not belonging to a particular religion, following a church denomination, or doing "good deeds" -- that changes in our life and our eternal salvation are assured. Are you ready to make this direct commitment to Him? Join us this Sunday and learn how your own resurrection from death and your eternal rest in heaven can be assured through a personal relationship today with Jesus Christ, a relationship that began with an empty tomb on the most important morning in history!
Each week's study is taught by Pastor Jason Gant, bringing you the Word of God from the Bible, chapter-by-chapter, verse-by-verse. Everyone is welcomed, and transportation is happily provided. Attendees at this Sunday's service will have the opportunity to ask their Bible questions and take part in a brief discussion period after the teaching. Our "Coffee & Carbs Fellowship" follows immediately afterwards. Prayer Fellowship meets every Thursday at 11:00 AM. For more information, please call 310-510-3003.
