Young Adult Tennis Starts with a Blast

Dozens of young adults showed up late Saturday night on June 21st to meet the challenge on the tennis courts. Thanks to the efforts of CHOICES, Avalon young adults age 16-24 have a great option for Saturday night fun.

The Catalina Country Club agreed to open the courts from 7-10pm every Saturday night to give young adults the chance to try their hand at the game of tennis.

The kick off event included a barbeque, music and raffle prizes. They came to play, they came to watch, they came to eat but most important they were having a great time. Some played well and some could hardly play but it did not seem to matter. Sure, some players thought they would be the best and got beat pretty bad however that just inspired the challenge for the upcoming weeks.

CHOICES is a local organization whose mission is to encourage community involvement in helping island youth make responsible decisions about alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs.

As a way of encouraging tennis in the younger group, Ken Putnam made a donation to CHOICES to allow 16-24 year olds to join the Catalina Racquet Club. This would allow them to play throughout the week with other Racquet Club members in organized play.

Come out one Saturday night and see if Tennis is for you. Loaner rackets and balls are available. Racquet Club members are also available to help with tennis tips and etiquette.  Don't miss out, come have a blast.
