Fall into a new tradition at the first annual Fall Festival
Article dated: Friday, October 02, 2009
Catalina Kid Ventures is about to embark on a new tradition for our community. CKV's Fall Festival: children bringing our community together, will be held on Thursday, October 15th from 5:00 pm - 9:00 pm along Crescent Ave and Front Beach. This family friendly event has many great activities planned. There will be live music on the stage from Hot Off the Range to help set the right atmosphere. The food booths should be a highlight: C.K.V. will be offering a taco plate, Catalina Mat Club is preparing BBQ Beef Sandwiches, ICES is going to pop up some kettle corn, AVID will be serving up fresh gumbo in a bread bowl, and Boy Scouts will be dipping corn dogs, cheese sticks and caramel apples. Don't worry; there will be plenty of hot and cold drinks, not to mention sweets and treats to enjoy while you stroll the streets.
There will be games of chance and luck and an old fashioned hay ride in the back of a truck. You'll have an opportunity to get your face painted, get an airbrushed tattoo, or walk around the fountain and win a pie or two. This year's Pumpkin Patch will be right down on the beach with several sized pumpkins to choose from. Speaking of the beach, Beach Bingo will also be played for great local prizes! The Paper Bag Mask Contest entries will also be displayed near the stage, with pumpkin prizes being award to the scariest, prettiest, ugliest, and most creative masks.
Have you always wanted to win a blue ribbon? Now's your chance! Enter the Apple Pie Bake Off, just $10 to participate if pre-registered and $15 the night of the event. Also, try your skill in our Bag-O Tournament, similar to horse shoes but with a twist, teams of two - $40 registration. Last but not least, the Wacky Wait Staff Races is returning to Avalon, where local restaurants will compete in some fun and wacky wait staff/bartender related task. Each of these competitions will be for bragging rights and great prizes.
If you have any question about this fun event, would like to pick up applications, would like to volunteer, or sign up your organization to participate, don't hesitate to stop by the Recreation Department or call us at 310-510-1987. Hope to see you and your family out participating in our community's newest tradition, CKV's Fall Festival: children bringing our community together.
