Catalina Island 50-Mile Run to benefit local organizations
Article dated: Friday, January 15, 2010
The 29th Annual Avalon Benefit 50-Mile Run will be held Saturday January 16, 2010. This is one of the country's most challenging and scenic 50-milers. No cars, no smog, just great terrain, incredible views and even an occasional buffalo sighting.
This annual run crosses Catalina Island from Avalon to Two Harbors and back. Proceeds from the run benefit local island charities. In return for an extraordinary running experience, runners are reminded that this is a benefit run. The entry fees barely cover the cost of putting on the race so pledges are the only way that money is raised for the charities.
The run begins at 5:00 a.m. at the foot of the green pier in Avalon and has a 12-hour cut-off time. Following the race, a banquet dinner will be held in the world famous Casino ballroom with entertainment and an awards ceremony. Spectrum Sports
